I am interested in the stories history chose not to tell
Inspired by women whose voices were overlooked and whose stories were often recorded through the lens of others, my work begins with reading and research. I make paintings and textile works inspired by the people, places and stories that have shaped my life. My family's convict history and the Australian landscape are recurring sources of inspiration.

My landscapes are inspired by the women whose lives and labour helped shape the places we know today. Incorporating lace and stitching, these works explore themes of memory, belonging and the often-unseen contributions of women.
About the Artist
Hi, my name is Elise.
I grew up with a strong single mother and a fascination with history, I create paintings that explore the stories of women whose voices have often been overlooked.
I am currently working on a series inspired by convict women and remarkable women from Australian history, drawing inspiration from the people and landscapes of Melbourne, Gippsland and North Adelaide.
